Please help - big red line down screen

Hi,
A few weeks ago i turned on my laptop only to see a thin purple line going down the screen. I thought nothing of it and ignored it, but a week later, it turned into a very thick green line. Another week went past, and it turned into a darker green. Just earlier today it was the same green colour, but now when i opened my screen, it was bright red and even thicker.

Can anyone help me figure out what is up with this and how i could possibly fix it?

P.S. Im new to forums, so i dont know if i posted this image right or attatched or whatever, so sorry if it ****s up. And sorry for the bad quality image, i used my phone.
 
From the looks of it, I'm thinking it's a problem with the LCD itself. It might be repairable if you could get a replacement screen. Is the line constant (IE during POST, booting, different resolutions, etc)? Have you tried using an external monitor to see if it displays there too?
 
Yeah, the line is constantly there no matter what im doing. And no, i havent tried any kind of external monitor - i dont really have the resources to do such a thing.
 
Maybe take it down a PC shop see if there is any CRT / LCD they could lend you at the shop and test it there, just a way to eliminate the graphics card and know its a lcd issue.
 
This may work

To eliminate the monitor do a "print screen", save out from Paint and post it. Print screen takes an image direct from the graphics card and any monitor problem should not show up. If it is still there then it is your graphics card, if not then it is your monitor.

Does that make sense :)

Ah, thanks for that idea. I did the print screen and yeah, the red line was still there so it must be my graphics card. I think its about time for an upgrade anyway, so ill be getting a new laptop soon. Thanks to everyone who posted.
