Hello,

I have a problem booting XP, I had trouble with some virus' last night and after running various security tools I couldnt delete them, I tried safe mode but when I came to delete them windows wouldnt or the virus would restart my machine and close ad-aware or edwido after hours of fighting with this I tried manually deleting the files ad-aware and edwido pointed too with no luck, in the end I tried a reboot but now windows wont start at all.

I have linux on the same HDD and it loads as far as the linux boot manager, I can load linux no probs but when I select windows my computer restarts and I go through the cycle again, I have tried "last known good" and "safe mode" as well as bootcfg /rebuild in the recovery console with no luck also.

Is there a way I can boot my PC with my laptop via ethernet? or is there any other way I can reboot or fix my PC, I know a complete re-install will work but It has to be my last option as there is data on my PC that I need (course work & pictures of female body builders of course:confused: ) and I could do with either getting the data from the drive some how.

Any ideas what I can try?

Thanks

Mike

EDIT: I am trying chkdsk /p /r in console now and its on 50% so maybe that will help although I am not to confident it will, I know Linux and XP use different file system but could I use linux some how to reboot or retrieve some of the stuff on my XP partition? I know that very unlikely but you never know.

OK, the Recover Console is usually no good for things like this. When the XP Setup welcome screen comes on, hit enter, unless you've already tried this, and Windows will then search for an existing copy of XP and ask if you want to repair it. Try the reapir that way. I don't know if that will eliminate all of your problems, but it probably will get rid of some of them. Try it and get back to us.
