PLEASE HELP! CD Drive doesn't work

Hi, I have a problem with my CD drive (it's a CD burner; my computer is a VAIO laptop). Every time I try to burn pictures on a CD, my computer spends several minutes burning the CD, but then, at the very end, I get a message "Unable to complete the CD writing wizard".
Since I am apparently a computer idiot, I replaced my CD drive in the hopes of resolving the problem. Hmm. Problem not resolved.
Please help me figure out what this could be. Thanks!!!

This sounds more like the software used and type of file being written to disk is the main problem there. I've used B's Recorder for a number of years with great results for not only burning cd-rs but making backups of those. But there are some freewares also available that can be looked over for this.

CDBurnerXPPro is one you can try out available for download at http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php

A long two page list of freewares is seen at http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/downloads-alpha/CD-Burning.html But one of the best used for burning a larger variety of file types including iso disk images is DeepBurner available at http://www.downloadsquad.com/2005/12/22/deepburner-free-cd-and-dvd-burning-software/

I keep BurnOn installed here for it's ability to burn iso images like the one needed for GParted live for cd. That's a tool for creating and modifying partitions for both Windows and Linux OSs. There's an option to buy the full retail version of different programs reviewed at http://www.burnworld.com/software/cdrburning/page1.htm

There are several for dvd as well as cd burning and others like video capturing seen on their main download page at http://www.burnworld.com/software/index.htm
