I recently purchased a new laptop with an internal 8x DVD+/-RW. After browsing various new game titles I discovered Flight Simulator X will require a 32x Dvd-Rom drive. Will my internal drive work with this game? If not, where can I find a 32x Dvd drive. I have poured through the internet in search of the answer. However, I now turn it over to the masses. Please help if you can...all replies are appreciated.

You are thinking of two different specs. To make a long story short, yes, your game will work in that drive (I'll spare you the technobabble unless you ask for it).

If you don't mind please tell me the technical stuff. When the system requirements say 32x Dvd-Rom how does my drive comply? Thanks SirKenin

Think about the fastest DVD read is 16X and can read CDs about 48X or 52X so I say there game means CD read on a DVD drive. Whats the CD read on your drive?

8x DVD/RWs are usually 52x CD. There are no such thing as 32x DVD ROMs.

The technobabble is this. The 52x means it reads 52x faster than a 1x CD ROM. A 1x CDROM can read an entire 650MB disk in about 70 minutes. So, the faster the rotational speed (the 52x), the faster the beam moves across the disk and the faster it reads the data obviously.

Sooo... Your game is saying that it needs to run at least 32x faster than a 1x in order to get the data off the CD fast enough to keep up with the game. You will be well within those limits with your disk player I would think.
