Please help.. installing new card

My instruction booklet says I should go into add/remove programs and uninstall my existing card. Is this a necessary step. The reason I ask is because I don't know what to remove. I see two possibilities:

ATI Software
Nvidia Drivers

The computer is an Acer Aspire T180.

remove the nVidia drivers. That ATI software must be other program, not a driver..

Go to your "device manager" and click "display adaptors", right click the current card and select "uninstall" then it will prompt to restart, select "no". then shut the computer down, install the new card, turn on and install new drivers.
