Please help me find a laptop

Hi,

I have a friend looking to buy a new laptop. He will be using it for basic computing: internet browsing, iTunes, skype w/ webcam.

He also wants it to be pretty good for playing computer games and using other software programs. Not anything spectacular. Just wants to be able to play games like the Sims, etc. As far as the software there is a building design program he is looking to use, sorry I do not know the exact name.

His main concern is that he is interested in a iPad but kind of wants to know if the iPad is as powerful as a laptop and what the main differences are.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It really depends what games he wants to play, like sims 3 does not have very high system requirements. but say, bad company 2 is much different than that, it needs a very fast computer to be run properly. All laptops can browse the internet. If he wants his laptop to be compatible with a lot of programs, go for windows. also, I don't think an ipad has a webcam.
 
Hi mate, now a days there are lots of cheap lap in the market, however i just bought acer 5534-1096 from ebay for 182$ very very cheap. its a good laptop if you only do the surfing thing.
well if you want to play games then go for brands like toshiba sony or dell or asus dont go for compaq or acer or gateway type of brands becuase they give low end materials.

this is broken laptop but few days ago i bought same laptop with different problem(windows corrupted) only for 500$ but very good for gaming.worked fine.
 
i've been using dell for quite a while now, it is a very reliable, haven't had any problems with the laptop itself (had a few issues with the power adaptor though), but generally is pretty good.

My wife needs a new laptop and she doesn't wan't to get dell and is interested in Samsung R580 (http://www.dealabout.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=3216).

The specs are good enough to play general games and surf the net and some office work..
Never used Samsung, any feedbacks?
