I got a new internal dvd drive. I plug it in and turn the computer on but it says its got a boot disk failure and wont do anything further.

when i hook up my old dvd drive all works fine again.

how do i go about sorting this?

dont really know anything about all this stuff (was kinda hoping it would be plug in and play kind of thing) but i do know that it uses a pata connection at the back of it.

oh and old dvd drive was a writemaster (samsung i think) and the new one is LG.

thanks!

Weird.

Are you plugging in the new drive using the same cables etc... as the old one? If not this could be the problem.

I have always assumed DVD/CD drives as plug-and-play... Never had an issue with plugging different ones in before.

You say its a PATA drive. Do you have the jumpers set right on the back. If there are two on the same cable one has to be master and ond one slave. Plus you might need to set your boot order in the bios making your harddrive first.

See your bottom photo. The white cap on the pins, thats the jumper. Should be marked on the drive which pins is which. Just make sure one drive is set as master and the other one slave. Try that first, then we will get to the boot order.
