Ok not really a n00b, but having sum stupid problems i cant figure out.
I bought a Asus P4S800-MX Micro The other day, and i can't get the
onboard sound to work. People have told me to download and install drivers
and to enable it on the BIOS, but i;ve tried both and to no avail, neither worked. So now i've resorted to post on various motherboards, and this one seems like they know whats going on. please help. I don't have the cash to go out and spend 100 bucks on a sound card, i don't even ahve 30 for a cheap one, im totally broke and need sound, Final Fantasy XI sucks without sound...
Please help me out!

I have to ask this just in case. Are you sure the speakers is pluged into the right slot? Are you saw you dont have sound set to mute? Finally are you certain you installed the correct drivers?

ok Asus P4S800, YES i bought it, its brand new, and yes the speakers are plugged in, and its not muted, i can't mute it, cause the is no device installed it says. But i turned it on in the BIOS, and im installing the sound drivers from the ASUS site itsself, so i don't think thats the problem.

Is there a Question mark or exclamation mark beside the sound in device manger or say unknown device-when you installed the drivers did the program seem to really install or did it abort, are you sure you didnt just unzip them? Some drivers dont install, you have to manually install them through devce manger

Wierd stuff also happens from time to time so you might even try (before installing the drivers i pointed you to), is to open device manager, select the device (presumably there is an exclaimation/question-mark beside it), right click and uninstalling the device. Reboot and then try installing the drivers either by running an installer or right-click on the device in devicemanage and selecting 'update drivers' and pointing that wizard to the drivers (for the ASUS drivers you'll be doing the former method)
