I resently reset my hardrive because I was infected with a worm virus, on doing so I seem to have deleted somthing crutial for playing any sort of sound.

On going
>start
>Run dxdiag
>Sound

It says at the bottom 'No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.'
My sound card is plugged in. The speakers work perfectly I have tried using 3 different types so they are not the problem.

Please please please somone help me out. I'm not a total pc wiz so please be patient with me, thankyou :)

Have you installed the driver for it?? If no, then that is why it is saying no sound card is installed.
