Please Help Me!

I'm new to this board, but I'll explain as best as I can. I'm moving to an apartment in which my landlord has offered for me and my fiance to use his wireless network. It is unsecured (not password protected) because this place is in the middle of NOWHERE and I guess he just doesn't care. Anyway, when trying to connect my hp laptop to his 'netgear' wifi hub, it allows me to connect and has good signal strength but it says 'local access only.' It will not allow me onto the internet! He said all other computers in his house work fine and his daughters laptop works fine when she comes over.

What may be causing this? I'm using Vista SP2.

I'm wondering if I take my wireless router (belkin g) that's already configred to my laptop, PS3 and PC and connect an ethernet cord from an empty LAN port on his router to the 'modem' port on my router if that will work? I have been doing this for the last 2 months at my mom's house because she can't remember her WPA security key on her network. So I took an ethernet cord and plugged it into an empty LAN port on her wireless DSL modem and plugged the other end into the 'modem' part of my router (belkin g) and it's let me connect to my SSID. Think this will work?
Please help!!

I wouldn't think so, except you have done it at your mom's. I didn't think that would work. Its worth a shot, but I don't think it will.
