Hi All,

New to the forum so hope im posting in the right place lol. Anyway the story goes.....My motherboard pretty much broke down,I took it to a computer shop where I was advised to have new motherboard and processor. Them being the experts,i agreed, they told me it would run so much faster than before (it was pretty slow lol) Anyway I get the pc back and they tell me they had to also reinstall windows over the old one!! No problems i thought, but since I have had the pc back its even WORSE than before, it takes approx 4 mins to start up,ie takes approx 3 mins to open, folders, files, photos etc take forever to open, and as for a download....forget it lol. I spoke to the shop, who after quite happily taking my money simply said "that shouldnt be happening" drop it in and we will tweak her a bit!! I just dont have the time/patience to drop her off, so im hoping someone here can help?????? I used to have a dual processor,32 bit vista, now in computer prioperties it states "AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3500+ 2.20 GHz" as the processor "447MB"n as memory. Can anyone help please? Is there a conflict or something going on, im at my wits end :-( Hope someone can!! Thanks (also posted this in os part of forum, so if a mod wants to delete one feel free)

Are you serious? You had a Dual Core?

If that's so, they TOOK your CPU and Motherboard and REPLACED it with a MUCH worse processor and motherboard.

His thought process was "a dual core would be running while doing two jobs ie,1.5ghz on each job, single one doing one job at 2.2ghz would be faster" guess not, so what else could the problem be?? I mean this REALLY is slow, everything, web, files, office, pics, the lot, there must be something else wrong? could it be to do with new vista over old one at all?

Tell him to put the original parts BACK.... he was wrong, and if he knows anything about what he should, he knows that what he did hurt your PC's performance. He flat out lied. I mean, he couldn't have thought taking out over 512mb RAM was going to help?

Tell him a general rule of thumb when increasing a PC's performance, is to not downgrade its hardware.

Just bin looking round and the general thoughts are that VISTA needs at least 1.5 RAM???? Would this show a difference if i did this?

...

Tell him to give back your original parts. 512MB on Vista will do SQUAT. Always 1GB+.

Another thing, why is it so slow? Because he replaced your motherboard (AMD uses a different socket type), and the drivers are not compatible, ect...

To make it "faster" again, you must get your original parts BACK... You can't let them get away with this.

Yeah, but as of right now, you have ".5" gb RAM. When you took the PC in, according to the page you posted, you should have had 1gb... so he removed half of the memory from your computer. Go confront him, get your memory and processor back, and put them in yourself (not hard, even if you've never done it).

he said the original parts were knackered!!! It all came about because my pc would not boot, it just cam on and had a BEEP code!!! Can I add more ram to the AMD bit?

And the motherboard... Intel and AMD can't go into the same motherboard.
