Please help! Processor installation issue

Hi all,
I'm building a new rig as we speak, have the power supply and mobo in with no issues. Now I'm on to the CPU, and I'm terrified of breaking it. I'm confused because a friend of mine that builds computers looked over my build list prior to purchase and told me everything fit, including the mobo and processor. But it doesn't seem to.

I've heard that it's normal to meet a little resistance when installing a processor, but I'm too afraid to push because I don't know how to tell if I have the pins lined up correctly. There is no marking on the mobo's CPU socket to match up to the CPU... I can't tell how it's supposed to go in.

The mobo is a Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H, and the processor is an AMD A10-5800K.

What's the deal here? Am I a tard? Are these even compatible? Or am I just completely missing something? Please help!
 
Judging by the pics and the parts, the CPU isn't compatible with the socket. You got an AMD processor for the socket type FM2 for a motherboard that only supports Intel processors with the LGA 1155 socket type.
 
Yeah, like said. You have a AMD FM2 socket processor and a Intel Socket 1155 motherboard. If you tried pushing the CPU locking clamp down, you have probably bent the pins on the AMD processor.
 
Haven't pushed anything into anything for that exact reason, lol... I was afraid of this. I should have checked here on the forum for compatibility instead of taking the friend's advice :(

This is the exact reason I have friends come to me instead of going to other people, because most of the time the other person is wrong.
 
Yeah you've got a Socket 1155 board and a Socket FM2 processor there, they won't fit.

Either send the board back and get a Socket FM2 one, or send the CPU back and get something like an 1155 Celeron or Pentium or any of the i processors (i3 3xxx, i5 3xxx, i7 3xxx - make sure you get 1155 and Ivy Bridge though for that Z77 board).

If this build is for gaming, I suggest sending the AMD back and getting a decent Intel chip for that motherboard.
 
If you were planning to use the onboard GPU in the CPU then you'll want an FM2 motherboard.
 
If as you stated "specifically tailored to handle any new games for a while" then keep the Z77X UD3H and change the cpu to 3570K.
