Please Help Quick!!!!

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L25-S1195 and the screen is very dark and I can't figure out why. When I hook it up to an external monitor it works fine, but the screen on the laptop is very dark and I can barely see anything. The contrast is as high as it goes, but the screen doesn't change its appearance. Is there anything I can do to turn the brightness up through any settings? Please help, and thanks to everyone in advance!!!

Do you have screen brightening buttons on your keyboard? I am wondering if maybe there is a problem with the GUI controls that you are using. I have a function button that I use all the time and it works fine for dimming and brightening. Do you think it is something to do with your screen resolution or color choices?

It has controls on the keyboard for contrast through the "Fn" key. I looked it up and I found that a lot of laptops have problems with the FL Inverter that controls the back light or something like that. When i hook it up to an external monitor it works perfectly, but just on the laptop LCD the color is so dark that it is almost impossible to see anything.
