I have a brand new computer that i built with windows XP and i am trying to connect it to a wireless network that is run off of my old windows 98 machine. My XP comp has a Linksys WMP54G wireless network card. My Linksys WRT54G router is hooked into my Linksys LNE100TX ethernet adaptor. I can access the internet with my 98 PC, but i cant get the XP on, although it has a connection to the network it has no internet access, also it doesn't see the other comp.

Any help would be greatly appriciated

Thanx

For starters, make sure that a firewall isn't blocking anything from entering your computer. Windows firewall, by default, should already be good to go for a wireless connection. You need to make sure that your PC is set up to allow the router to configure its network settings. Go to Control Panel-> Network Connections. Right click the wireless connection and click properties. Double-Click "Internet Protocol TCP/IP". Make sure that "Obtain an IP Address automatically" & "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are chosen. If they aren't, there's your problem. Now, go check out your network settings and make sure that you have successfully retrieved an IP and network settings from the router. Go to Start->Run, type "cmd", in the command prompt type "ipconfig". This should give you a bit of info on your network setup. By default, most routers assign an IP address in the 192.168.1.x range. It should say something like that next to "IP address". If it doesn't, post here again and we'll jack with it some more.
