I made a partition on my Laptop with vista Premium and i know longer have a use for it. What happens if i delete the partition?

does the extra space get added on to the c or D drives or does it completely wipe it and i have no access to the memory anymore.

I took a screenshot of what it says when i try to delete it

Is there anyway i can add that partition to the d drive?

Thanks alot

Brett

So long as no system information was ever written to it, you can safely delete it. As far as adding it back, yes it can be done. Not sure if it can be done with Vista's tools though, as I'm not too familiar with it. There are plenty of partitioning tools out there though, Norton makes one, GRUB, etc.

You can delete it, however it will show up as "unallocated space" and you wont have direct access to it. However you would need to use a partition management tool to redistribute the free space.

Eh, sorry, GParted, not GRUB...my bad.

I just deleted all the data in my partition that Ubuntu 7.1 was installed on and then I was getting failures to boot because GRUB was deleted.

I fixed it by using the Ubuntu CD-ROM and reinstalling the Ubuntu 7.1 operating system along with GRUB. How do you delete the information in the second partition and then over ride GRUB in the boot process?

You'll need to either delete Ubuntu (and thus GRUB) and fix the MBR of Windows. I'm not certain how this is done with Vista, but maybe someone else can chime in. If you plan on keeping Ubuntu, you can edit the GRUB file to allow it to automatically boot into Windows, and lessen the time (normally 10 seconds) it takes to do so, so you don't have to use arrow keys every time.

I plan on keeping Ubuntu 7.1 as I like some aspects of it better than Microsoft Windows. I was playing around in Ubuntu and severely messed it up so bad I had to delete the partition is was in and then reinstall it. I will have to look into how to modify GRUB.

Yeah, that'll happen more than once, just so you're forewarned :D Each time though you'll learn a bit more and have a greater understanding of the base system though, so it's all good!
