Please help

I recently bought a Dell laptop, and It's excellent, but I have trouble with the internet connection to the router at my house. My dad's laptop and all the other computers in the house work fine, but when I did speedtest.net or whatever my download speed was only .57 mb/sec. Whenever I have a connection through other routers my laptop is quick, but it's only this laptop with this router, is there anything I can do to increase the compatibility of the 2 and therefore download and stream more quickly? Because it's gotten to the point where I just don't even feel like being on the internet anymore.
 
are you connecting through wireless or wired, if wireless try switching to wired, to see if the speed improves, that would help narrow the problem down if the speed improves, then there could be a wireless issue either with the laptop or router itself
