Hey, I got a new video card because my screen didnt have anything come up, and I put the new video card in, start it up, and still nothing comes up on the screen. But its different now. With the new card, everything in the computer turns on, then it beeps 5 times. Two normal beeps, and then 3 fast beeps. I then turn it off, and turn it back on, same thing every time. With my old card, it would just turn on, and nothing would come up. No beeps. I would then restart it (with the old card) and it would work. I put the new one in, it didnt work, put the old one in, deleted the old drivers, put the new one back in, and it still didnt work. So what the heck could the problem be then? Also, does anyone know what that beep code means? 2 normal, 3 quick? my mobo manual doesnt have a beep code chart.

Please help, I dont know what the problem is.

Thanks,
Derek

sounds like a hardware problem. Try removing the GFX card and RAM then give them a BLOW/CLEAN. Make sure the card slots it the mobo firmly and a good connection is made. Then try booting again. Also do u have a spec on the mobo/GFX card & RAM ?

Have a look here

This lists the different procedures Asus recommends, just look for the symptoms you have. :)

Thanks guys. Because it still didnt work right with the new video card, does that mean it definitely is not a video card issue? If not, that leaves the PSU and mobo (and CPU, but it doesnt sound like CPU issues). I just got the mobo, I dont know what could be wrong with it. I will return the new video card and get a different PSU. Does anyone know what that beep code is though, it would help a lot.

Hey. Two things. First, I forgot to say what two video cards I'm using. My old, trusty, original Leadtek Nvidia 6600GT. And the one I bought today, it was just some random, cheapest one at best buy (I am returning it) a ATi Radeon X300SE. Also, under version of CPU-Z on motherboard, it says ASUS A8N5X ACPI Bios Revision 0401. The date is 10/11/05.

Thanks,
Derek

I updated BIOS, still doesnt work. In fact, we were watching Old School last night, and about 1.2 hours in, the monitor just shut off again. It makes me wonder if its a software thing? I really dont want to spend $50 on someone to look at my computer. Any ideas? Thanks.

and I put the new video card in
And what might the new card be?

With my old card
And that one?

Correct me if im wrong, you "upgraded" from a 6600GT to a X300SE?

about 1.2 hours in, the monitor just shut off again.
What driver version was it? heh

I didnt upgrade, I bought the cheapest one they had just to test it out, and then I returned it after that one didnt work. And as for driver's, I have tried rolling back drivers and updating drivers for my 6600GT, and both times it doesnt work. Has anyone heard of anything like the monitor going blank before, or do you know what causes it? Thanks, Derek

Who do you suggest then? Every time I have talked to someone at Geek Squad, they have been very knowledgeable and know what they are talking about. I dont understand why everyone on here dislikes them so much.

Idk i went in their once with a friend of mine who knows a good deal about computers... and we talked to the geek squad guy for a lil bit and idk this one didnt have any idea what we were talking about... maybe i just held that experience against the rest of them. Idk i would usually call somone local? but i have a computer technician that goes to my church so i just ask him... but i guess geek squad will do

Yeah, I think it just depends on the location. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about geek squad, but in my area their pretty good. Thanks for the concern though.
