is upgrading the motherboard of a 3 years old computer worthwhile? or is buying a new one better? please answer!!

PS. it's a gateway

gateway....i would buy a whole new pc
Yep, first off it might be kind of tough to find a replacement mobo, and that could end up leading to buying a whole new case. Replacing pieces like a mobo can get kind of funky. Its been 3 years close enough for a re-build if you can.

If you say what type of Gateway it is then maybe we can help you upgrade your existing hardware i.e. processor upgrade, memory (RAM) upgrade etc., but if you want the advantages of a new computer like PCI-express, more memory slots/capacity etc. than just build a custom computer or buy a brand new one.

well...now that we know its a fairly new brand of gateway...it would be cheaper to replace the motherboard....the only thing is i've had no experience with gateway but if they are like dell you're upgrading options are very limited even with a new motherboard

Ya you may be stuck calling up gateway and seeing if you can get a replacement mobo. If not its a matter of finding out if all of your stuff is compatible.

You may have to buy a new case if your Gateway's Power/Reset Switch Jumpers are all clumped together, as that means you will only be able to use Gateway motherboards (I don't know if they manufacture their own motherboards, but they may do...).
