I need help with my Color printer, Lexxmark X1185. It only prints in black and white, I have refilled the color ink, tested the cartridge on another printer, reinstalled the driver... Anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried cleaning the heads of the printer? via manually or through it's cleaning process. Also, is the settings of the printer set to print in color also, or is it disabled to black/white prints only.

Have you tried reinstalling the software and using the configuration tool there for testing the initial prints? Each manufacturer of printers generally has a software tool included or available at the support site for seeing the print heads properly aligned as well as printer settings configured properly.

Have you tried cleaning the heads of the printer?
Remember, the heads on basically any printer today are on the cartidge itself, so a new cartridge is a new set of heads

Try the printer on another computer. It sounds like either a problem with your printer or bad setting in your drivers. I know most printers will work just fine without the color cartridge. So, say you got the contacts dirty, it might not even realize you have the color cartridge loaded...

Does yours give ink levels? Or show which cartidge is loaded in the drivers? Be sure both show up. Also, print some test pages. See if your printer has something built in(pretty rare anymore) Plus you should have plenty of options to check your heads and all.

I tried multiple pages, and the only thing that prints is black. I only have one computer, so I can't test it on another computer. Anyone know what to do exactley?

Before finishing the last post I went all over the Lexmark support site. The site has an auto detect online tester for their models. The main page for the knowledge base and driver updates is found at http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl...tp://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/support.cgi&

You may have a setting change in Windows itself causing this. One tip shows how to print Excel documents in black and white seen at http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl...0:435:0:0&framed=&docid=ENUS20108&relevance=1

OK, I did a little research on that unit. It's an all in one, correct? You know, mentioning this would REALLY help us diagnose the problem a little better...

Have you tried using the color copy function? Obviously it's a hardware issue if it won't print color when using the color copy option... Well, assuming this does have the ability to scan and print without a computer.

Sorry for not mentioning that, but yes it is an All in 1 printer, but I have hit color copy many times, and that still only prints in black&white.

After the most recent information, I would guess that there is something wrong with the carriage ciruit that holds the cartridge... This might be worth repairing, but more than likely it will be more than a new printer, mine as well get a new one... :)

You guys didn't know that was an all in one type there? The next time I'll have to add that in myself. Just looking over the product overview and specifications will show that. (I'm so glad... :D I'm so glad...:D that I went with HP! :D (as far as the printer is concerned anyways.) :P )

Getting an exchange or just the refund from "Wally world"? That's not the greatest place for some hardwares. They simply buy the cheapest lot of whatever to stock shelves.

To hell with it, I'm bringing this back to walmart! :d

Ah, and if any of you are wondering why they can sell "name brand" items at a cheaper price than everyone else there's one basic reason. They require the manufacturers to produce the "same" items at a lower cost. Hence the lower prices, and the fact that stuff from there in my experience has the tendency to break a lot quicker than stuff from any other retailer that is made by the same company. Anyway, as PC Eye said, avoid buying electronics from there...

They've always had a limited selection of items to begin with. As often seen with "department" stores with a small section for electronics, music cds, movies on vhs and dvds, tvs, and a line of portable radios you won't see a section set aside for desktops and related hardwares with any experienced techs onhand. I'll give a place like Circuit(ripoff) City more credit for hiring a tech or two. The companies selling to them simply push through quanty while other places want standards kept.
