I'll also consider this as my introduction to the forums. Hello I'm elephante :D

Anyways, I'm planning on building my first computer. I already have the parts (in my cart) but as security I would like a 2nd opinion on it.

I'm gonna purchase extra fans after. I wanna be able to capture/render videos and do some modest gaming(not a hardcore PC gamer, more like just putting my feet in the water). I wanted to build something with potential upgrades in mind but will be easy-ish on the wallet for now. (this is all running me about $750 atm)

Any recommendations on either better parts or compatibility will be greatly appreciated!

I have the 2.6Ghz model, which overclocked to 3.4Ghz no prob, they dont have L3 cache, so they run cool and perform very well concidering, plus 2 extra cores.

I did consider overclocking eventually. Would you recommend the 635 over the 640?

I'm still green on the CPU details but from what I can see, the difference is that the 635 has a "multimedia instruction" which I am unfamiliar with.

Hmmm I'll do a little more research on that RAM company. I went with G Skill since the recommendation was very high. But at least now I know what CAS is :P

And I'll be sure to switch my CPU. Thanx for your help Shlouski!
 
That Wintec RAM is rated at 1.9V...that's way too high for DDR3. I wouldn't buy anything rated over 1.65V. The Ripjaws in the OP is good. This G.Skill ECO is even better if you're into overclocking:

How slow are we talking about? I frankly don't mind a few seconds more for file transfers and such. Also its sold out :(

I really appreciate the help guys I've been racking my brain on what parts to get for weeks!

Glad we can help. :)

Oddly enough, yes, ECO's are excellent overclockers. Notice how they're rated at 1.35V? They can be run at or above 1.5V, and often north of 1.6V, which allows for some monster overclocks. I've seen people with 1600 kits running around 2000MHz. Though with AMD, it's easier to tighten the timings than clock higher, which they're also good at. Now, this isn't to say that Ripjaws kits are bad at overclocking, because they aren't, but there are three tiers to them. The ones with red heat spreaders are the lowest, blue is the middle, and I think the top-tier ones are black. ECO's at the very least match the blue ones for overclocking potential, and often surpass them.

The caviar green drives are designed for low power usage and quiet operation...they're slow as Christmas compared to F3 or Caviar Black drives. They make good secondary storage drives, though.

The Earthwatts is a good buy. Nothing fancy about it, but it'll do the job and stay well in spec. It's definitely higher quality than the OCZ.


For $45, this hard drive would be better. It's faster, bigger, and quieter:

If you want a 5770, that one or this Sapphire would both be good:

I would pick Sapphire as the better brand, but the build quality on the cards will be about equal and the HIS has a better rebate.

The $120 Powercolor one would be ok as well, if you don't mind the fan being a bit noisy when it spins up. Not a great overclocker either, though it isn't awful. (I have that one)

I will go with the Samsung HDD, Earthwatts PSU, and HIS 5770 card.

Thanx to everyone here I feel very confident in the parts I'm choosing and even shaved off a few bucks for my fans in the future :D

dont you already have the parts you listed? because all this people are suggesting other parts but dont realize you already have everything.so i guess your going to return them to get the ones they suggested?or you really dont have the parts yet, because you say you do.

Oops! My mistake :P

What I meant to say was I didn't buy the parts yet, but rather just wanted to get a second opinion on my parts I was planning to get. I'm a cautious guy :)
 
well in that case ill get the gtx460 SE over the gt450.for $45 more than the gt450 you get almost double the performance.the SE edition and the regular 460 are the same except that the SE edition has 48 less processors and clocked a few MHz less(30 the most),which really mounts to nothing.

Thanx for the recommendation tech!

Sadly my budget at the moment is pretty low and I could really use the $45 for additional fans and other things. Besides I'm not dying too much for good graphics now and can wait :D
