PLEASE READ!!! Computer Help

Hey guys I have causual used computers for a long time. The basic stuff browsing the web, playing games, shopping and watching tv. Id like to learn more about computers from the ground up so to speak how they work and function. I plan on attending college in the fall of this year or the spring of 2014 to pursue a Computer Science degree. My plan is to teach myself as much as possible before I start college. I don't have a clue where to begin, are a starting point. I have talked to a few ppl who suggested learning how to code, learn how to build and mantain a network etc. I need to start somewhere and any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

PS.. Im a Newbie So I need a good starting point

Honestly just lurking on the forums and reading what you can will help an enormous amount. You could check out a beginning book on C++ for some basic programming. I learned probably 90 percent of my knowledge from being here. Newegg also has a good series on building a computer if you want to learn how to do that.

Take a look at http://cs50.net

It's the website of a course Harvard do called CS50. All of the lectures (in HD), slides, notes and problem sets are available on the site for free. It's quite a good introduction to CS.

Also, like Denther said, these forums will help you enormously! Get yourself an old PC and start some kind of project (make a server, media center, etc.). Be sure to ask lots of questions on here. Full of helpful people!
