okay.my p4 processor got a problem.im trying to clock it to 3 ghz.but it can only take it till 2.7ghz.i dunno what is the problem with it.im not sure whether it is my psu which i think is 250w.there is one time when i can actually oc it till 2.9ghz but it hanged at startup screen.what could the problem be?is it insufficient psu or the p4's fault.i'm not sure whether my p4 can be oc as i heard from others that some cant.
 
What is the original clock of the CPU ?
Do you monitor you temp while OCing?
You say you got to 2.9 Ghz but was it stable ?

Generally you won't be able to go far with a P4
 
what speed ram, and 250 watts is not very good, and according to ur sig u are using the stock heatsink and fan, id upgrade especially using a p4 they tend to run warm, and u are gunna over clock it..
 
yea i know 250 psu is not good.im getting a 350 soon.the rams timing i set is loose and it is still not working.the temps are pretty alright..the stock clock of my p4 is 2.53ghz.i just wanna know whether the problem lies where.
 
upgrade ur psu and put it in cuz either way u need to and get more than a 350 watt, but get it put it in and if it works then u know the prob is that, and is it running fine at stock like without oc, i think it lies within the psu, and what speed ram are u usin, i know u changed it but is 3200 2100 ?
 
my last psu went out, powmax, thats why they suck, but it was only 300 watts had 2 dvd-rw drives hooked up, 4 hds, 5 fans, and mobo, it shutoff on me 4 times before i smelt a burning smell, and wouldnt power on at all..
 
lol....mine is very basic.but what to look for?i've seen articles that not only the watts is impt,but the dunno what term that drives it..any idea?
