About 2 months ago I unplugged my computer so it didn't distract me from a handwritten essay I needed to do. I didn't plug it in again for about a week. When I did the computer booted but the screen didn't show anything. I assumed it was the screen so I plugged it into a different screen and put the screen into a different desktop. The screen was fine but my computer still did nothing. I then thought it was the graphics, and as I had an inbuilt graphics card on my motherboard (groan), I bought my mates second hand GeForce5 off him as he has just got the 6800 (bitch), and I knew it worked and I still got nothing. I tried it without the HD and floppy and CD drives, still nothing, I tried changing the power thingy, and nowt happened, I still had a blank screen. I ordered a decent upgrade of my motherboard from eBay, it arrived yesterday, put it in, set it up still nothing, so I removed the RAM stick thingy (name escapes me) and still nothing on the screen, I am at my wits end, can anyone help me. It has been suggested that it could be that when putting in the new motherboard and or graphics card I forgot to earth myself and have therefore fried lots of mini circuits with static charge. I think I did plug in the power (switch off) to earth, but honestly can’t remember. Is it a possibility that it is still the power going wrong, or some wire or summat, I’m willing to spend about £150- 200 on it, I just want it to work damn soon.

Yours Josh, please help am kinda fed up with this computer thing......

I never normally advocate this but you have tried a lot and spent a lot of cash, i also note that you have put the cash in pounds (£) so i assume you are uk based. therefore my recommendation, take it to PC world and ask them to repair it (or take it to a local comp shop), it will be cheaper that replacing everything under the sun.

But if people want to throw ideas out then go for it, i'm just aware of your cash flow ;)

Just note, you have plugged the screen into both the power and the video out

1. Have you checked/replaced your CMOS battery?
2. Do you have any onboard VGA socket, to try a Safe Mode start without a fancy graphics card?
Tom

Thanks, but I don't have a near PC world and the computer shop in town costs £40 just to look at a computer...

1) I replaced the battery almost immediately
2) What does it look like, I'm not exactly computer literate.....

do all the fans turn on??? does the motherboard make any beeping sounds, or have an led display (on the board) showing an post error code

Don't really have any suggestions but rather a quick question. Did you fully power off your system before pulling the plug from the wall (the very first time when it was off for a week). I only ask because a computer is not going to become damaged sitting there unplugged in a friendly environment. I know you've since changed mobo's etc. but if you pulled the power before fully shutting down your PC then that is most likely what did the damage. Knowing that may help you in the future to keep your PC safe and happy :). Good luck.

have you tried a different power supply?
but i would try to find a pcworld, as apj reccomended, the last time i looked it cost £40 to fix a pc, and that is a pretty good price considering how much hassle you would save

Lee :D

Yes all the fans do turn on, the main, motherboard & graphics card
The motherboard beeps I think a couple of times and there are no lights on the motherboard at all

Alzo I don't know about the processor gray thingy heatsink, but I may have knocked it when putting it on the new motherboard, would that effect it?
