Hello Guys,

I am planning to build a Matrox RT.X2 workstation. Here are my plans as they stand so far. I would really like to have you feed back.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600/Q6700
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Kingston Hyper-X DDR2-800 2GB [512MBx4]
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB [X2]
Matrox RT.X2/RT.X2 SD
Asus NVIDA GeForce 7950 GT 512MB [X2]
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Not sure what CPU to get Q6600 or Q6700?
I would really like toy here all of your feedback.

How can i go about running the Two above HDD in RAID 0 and a Third HDD for the OS, Software ETC. Not in RAID? Intrucions would be great.

Cheers,

I'm not too sure about many things here, such as what Matrox RT.X2 workstation is ?

Not sure either about the Raid 0, but you can have a look here at Raid 101. But I don't find where they mention how to actually do it. Anyway, I am interested in learning hwo to Raid too.

Finally, the processor, I find its very hard to recommend the Q6700 since its almost twice the price of the Q6600 depending on where you shop at. The speed gain -which is not huge- IMHO is not worth such an investment.

If you're planning on playing get a 8800gts 640mb or a 8800gtx instead of the sli you'll see a much better performance than a sli, the Q6600 should be enough and at decent price

Thanks Guys,

I will change the CPU to Q6600.

Will check that the RT.X2 Video Card supports that GPU.

Will like to here others views.

Cheers,

According to Matrox having two GPU's they will cancel each other out when using the Matrox RT.X2. If that makes sense.

With most games you get more running one card, also one 8800GTX will match/outperform 2 7950gt's. Make sure you get a Power supply that will run either one

My only other suggestiong would be getting a set of Corsair XMS2 ram DDR2-800 (for the price), i would go for 2x1GB instead of 4x512 just incase you want to upgrade later
