Before I start, if the mods feel that this post is in the wrong section - please can you move to the appropriate section. Thank you.
In regards to the post, can members please help with the following.

I need to set-up a backup routine on my systems. I have one main system in the network of four systems that houses all the files I need for daily operation. Now, before I go ahead I will explain a little about the set-up.

I process bookings in the office, and every time a booking is made on any system, the main system in the workgroup is updated (backoffice software). Also on this system I would like to house images of the booking. This is pretty much it.
Now what I would like is for members to suggest a backup setup. Please take the following into consideration:

  1. The back office software is updated every 10 - 15 minutes or so
  2. I also need to make an image of the hard disk, preferably a bootable image

I would appreciate if suggestions could be made to meet my needs. Thank you.

What OS are you using? Do your backups need to be made throughout the day or would once a day/night suffice?

sorry man, I'm using windows xp professional. Thing is these are important records and although equipment nowadays or HDDs are far more reliable than they used to be at one time, should I risk saving only at night?

I guess you need to ask yourself, what happens if I lose this data. Will it be lost forever and you possibly lose a sizable amount of money, or are you just going to have to recreate it and lose time doing that. I mean you can create an image of your computer that is no problem but you don't want to have to do that over and over again. You do that once or once after a major change in hardware or software. But for data backup you have a bunch of options. You don't have a windows server or anything like that? Just XP machines in a workgroup? The big problem of trying to get constant backups is that there is somethign that is going to have to keep backing it up all the time.

I guess answer the few questions I had and I will rethink.

Yes quiltface, it is an xp professional set-up and it is in a workgroup. I suppose we got the image part sorted. However the data if it goes missing then can cost money. I really only need a couple of files backing up on a constant basis. Or I suppose I can just schedule two backups during the day. And if the worst happens, I can probably just cross reference the missing records to a paper system I also have running.
