Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator

Hi there :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Windows 7.

Basically, my mouse stopped being detected this morning when I turned my PC on, and I looked in system devices and my Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator is missing - I thought this may be the reason, however, it has been missing for a while so I'm not sure.
At any rate I tried to reinstall it to make sure, by using the machine.inf file and adding hardware, but it simply says "device failed to install" or something along those lines.
So I'm basically wondering if I need to get the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator back, and if I do, how do I do it?
And if that's not the problem, how do I get my mouse back? This touch pad is unbearable.

Thanks in advance, happy to provide any more details you might need.

Edit: On closer inspection, it appears anything in my USB ports EG memory sticks as well, do not work, if that helps.

Thanks for the speedy response. I did the scan, however no problems were detected.

I'm unable to locate the windows installation disc at the moment to do the repair, but I am looking for it, hopefully that will work.
