I'm a web designer looking to expand his repertoire. I'm interested in learning a powerful 3d rendering program. I currently use several adobe products and am ready to take on a new program.

I just installed Blender. should I go on and learn tons of skills in this program or is there a better program out there?

(I don't want to spend months and months on a program only to find that it is obsolete, incompatible, or unpopular among graphic gurus)

I looked at Anim8er and it looks a little too basic. I want to be capable of making advanced graphics.

somebody plz point me in the right direction. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. thx.

does anyone have any experience with multiple animation programs that can compare and contrast them?

for example...one has better physics or water simulations, one has a nicer or easier interface, more, compatible, faster, more popular, or so on.

By the way I'm making a blender animation right now.:D:D:D:D

it's so much fun.

Check out Maya, if you want to produce with it youll have to pay, but it will let you do pretty much whatever you want, it likes to stick a nice symbol in the background if you have the trial background.

Also check out XSI mod tools, this is what microsoft is promoting along side their new XNA programming tools.

I don't know what other people think of them and only used them a little bit, but they both work great and XSI lets you export into several different programing environments. At least 6 if I can remember, been too caught up in school to be making games lately

I read that there are free trials for maya. I geuss autodesk makes maya and 3ds. I was reading some comparison charts and it looks like maya is the most expensive and has the best features and bells and whistles but has no built in liquid simulator.

I definetely want a particle and liquid simulator.
