ok so im getting a copy of windows ultimate 64-bit, and i was wondering if i could install the program without losing my stuff on my hard drive, because my friend said that i would have to format it and it will delete my stuff. is there a way to make it not delete my stuff?

Do you have windows xp?

If you do you can use the upgrade option and do it that way..it will just change the operating system with no need to format the drive to write over stuff.

Your alot better off doing a clean install then upgrading from XP to Vista. If you have a CD/DVD burner just burn all the stuff you want to keep for a backup.

The way understand from another forum. If you have a 32bit os already, and you want to put on a 64bit os. you have to do a clean install. Also, you should not have more than 2gb of ram in the machine. Vista won't load right and give you a lot of trouble with more than 2gb. If you have a dvd burner, back up your system.

It is true that is best to load windows with no more than 2GB ram... and just burn all your data on to disc and then reformat and install vista.

Im sure you can have up to 4gb ram with vista, and 3gb with xp. Ive read maximum pc and thats what they said.
