Poor Internet Signal

So I assembled a new pc and it doesn't have a wireless card. I thought a wireless usb would be better and I bought a TP link 300 Mbps wireless usb drive. Unfortunately, the internet signal was really poor. I don't think its the wireless router b/c both my laptops have a great signal and one of them is 6 years old. I was just doing some research. I was curious as to what a wireless access point is. Does it act like a wireless card and then you can connect it to the pc via an ethernet?

Thanks

It could be due to interference. USB3 ports and other devices are known to do this. Try changing the Router channel to a different one, ensure that the signal is max output and that it is set for the standard (e.g. N/B/G) that you're using.

After that you can upgrade the antenna and create DIY parabolic cardboard and foil reflectors to improve signal penetration.

Ive never had much success with USB and wireless, I reckon they suck and because I FPS game, its basically a no go.

I have used a wireless USB one before and it's not very good :( Especially for gaming....or downloading...or facebooking X-P...I had one for my PC and I had enough and ran the CAT5 to just get it over with and I'm much happier! Wish I could get my xbox wired two floors up :/...Always wire if possible!

I had a Netgear wireless USB (a few years ago) and I had the same issues. What speed are you getting connected at? If your going to be gaming, streaming video I wouldn't use a wireless USB adapter I would use an internal wireless card.
