Is port forwarding legal? If so, can I ask how to do it or discuss it here? It's something i'd like to learn more about, as I hear it could help with slow internet speeds. If so great, if not - no prob i'll delete the thread accordingly.
Port forwarding has nothing to do with increasing your speed. Port forwarding is used to allow communication between your PC and certain games/applications.
I've read up on it and from what I gather it does improve the downstream by redirecting a computer signal so I am actually interested in learning about it. Is it okay to talk about here or not though? I mean i'd like to get some help figuring it all out but not if it breaks any rules. I checked them a few times before making the thread but couldn't find anything..
Port forwarding is perfectly legal. All it does is tell the router where to direct unsolicited traffic. If you send communications out on a port and you get a response the router knows where on the internal network it's supposed to go. This is why you don't need to forward port 80 to surf the web but you do to host a web server.
How can I do it? I tried to find my router from the list at portforward's website but they didn't have it. Is there another way to set it up that isn't overly complicated?
