Port forwarding?!

Port Forwarding allows people outside of your local network to connect to your Minecraft server through a specified port. With no ports forwarded to the Minecraft server, nobody would be able to connect. It's not too hard to do, and if you have any questions, just ask.

First you'll want to give your computer a static IP address. Best method of doing this is to run ipconfig from a command prompt and copy the ip address you currently have from the router. Also copy the subnet mask, and the default gateway. Use the Google DNS servers (it's just easier, which are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Then in your router you go into the port forwarding options, and forward port 25565 (default Minecraft port) both UDP and TCP to your computers static IP address you gave it.

Once that is done, you just need to determine your external IP address (you can find it by just googling find my IP on google or use this link: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=find+my+ip). When people want to join your server, just give them that IP address and they will connect to your server.

Also note that your external IP address may change from time to time, so if people can't connect even though they have in the past, your public IP address may have changed.
