Hello,

Im after a laptop that i can easily carry around with me, run off the battery and use from class-to-class.

For this, am i best off getting a Windows based laptop or a Macbook?

I have heared that macbooks are good because the sleep function is great on them. Aparently mac Owners hardly ever turn there macbooks off they just put them in sleep mode and they boot up instantly. I have heared that this feature is not so great with a Windows laptop.

are they really much different when it comes to boot/loadup times & Battery life?

Get something along the lines of an ultra portable, something with a 13" or less screen would be best, but I reckon you should go with a PC based laptop trust me Windows pwns mac..

Kent.

its the sleep function in a mac that apeals to me the most for the mobility between lessons as it just is not the same with windows

Windows Vista has a very good sleep function, it's instant to turn off and almost instant to turn back on. I seriously don't know how a Mac could do it any better...

im not after anything smaller than a 13" laptop. I have read that a macbook is better att his function overall and most mac users just put there computer in sleep mode all the time instead of turning it off.

Well Ive had my macbook for about a month now, and I hardly use another computer (well less I want to game) and I have like 7 computers with recent hardware.

I love it. Its nice and small, not too incredibly so though. If you want a really small notebook then its prob not the one to go with, but if your looking for something much smaller your going to be paying twice as much.

The sleep function is awesome. I cant vouch for any laptops with vistas sleep function, but the multiple notebooks ive had with xp werent all that reliable waking from sleep. They also seemed to use much more battery life while sleeping.

My macbook wakes up virtually instantly, but it does take a second or so for everything else to be completely functional i.e. wireless to reconnect. But i find it much more useful than compared to my old windows notebooks.

But, I have to use windows for some programs/apps for college, but nothing to extremely demanding. So I got and tried paralells and to be honest its working pretty well. I love having it at my side incase i need windows. Everything seems to be running at full speed, atleast compared to some of my other computers, if not faster.

Playing Diablo via paralells. No need for rebooting. Hehe

Although boot times are incredible on this machine. Outpaced my gaming rig by 3 fold on boot up times!

A lot of people hate macs, if you knew me, you would know that i hated them with a passion. But i just got this one and gave it a chance, and I love it. Give it a chance for a few weeks before you bash it, believe me, you will likely enjoy it more than any other computer.

But dont get me wrong, its not like its some amazing super computer, it has its flaws but doesn't everything?

Acutally MAC's are more reliable than macs ;). These days Mac's are usnig Intel's Core 2 Duo processors, and they load way faster than PCs, check Youtube. I would recommend an MAC, or PC if yuo would do some gaming.

Ya, I def have to agree the new macs are a completely different species than the old macs.

They are some awesome computers.

If your a student mac has some great deals.

I bought my macbook and got a free ipod nano, and a printer for free (after rebates, but those got back to me in record time) along with a $100 off for being a student. My best buy accomodation with apple couldnt come close to touching my student discount with apple.

Awesome deal if your a student. Try walking into a retail store and telling them your a student and see what you get....nothing....trust me, i know.
