Possible to leave sound on while montior sleeps?

I want to be able to let my monitor sleep after 20 minutes, and if someone signs on, for example, I can still hear their notification sound. The Asus monitor I have has built in speakers and the sound and video all come over one cable. One of the HDMI cables, can't remember which. The computer uses the NVidia driver for sound. I like not having the extra cables and speakers on the desk taking up space. And one less thing to plug into the surge protector (speaker amp).

So if anyone can shed some light; a monitor setting, video card setting, something. I have tried everything I can think of and searched for an answer to no avail. Thanks.

Unless you get a pair of external speakers, no. The speakers on the monitor are controlled by the monitor and will go to sleep when the monitor does.

Something you could do instead could be to set the Blank screensaver and then have the monitor never go to sleep.

Thanks, that's a great idea. I would rather not let the monitor go to sleep anyway! Screensaver FTW! I'm gonna set it up like that tonight when I get home!
