Possibly over heating?

So whenever I am playing Battlefield:Bad Company 2, after maybe 4-5 games(usually), my screen starts to get all messed up.
First stuff like the map will randomly flash over my whole screen and it eventually leads to the whole screen going black except for some icons.
Like I said it usually happens after playing several games and my laptop starts to heat up and seems to go away after I stop playing for a bit.
Im just wondering if this makes sense or if it is more likely a problem with my drivers or just with the game.
If it is overheating would a laptop cooler be the best solution?

computer temperature programs are easy to find!

I never had such total breakdown of the screen display; but my games *definitely* lagged to the point of stop-action, and yes, a cooler helped immensely over none at all... though it still wasn't good enough for my dell, and I now have a desktop.
As a $30 investment, I'd get one anyway and just see what it does :-) If your laptop heats up, whether the drivers are a problem or not, then it will still help performance.

There might be different symptoms between a hot cpu, and a hot gpu, however; if mine was the former and yours is the latter? Pure speculation.

Interested in reading what others will post on this.

When you say that the screen is messed up you mean that there are a lot of artifacts showing in your screen? IF yes then most probably you have overheating problem. Do you overclock? If yes then this is the reason. Usually a driver problem causes the screen to go black immediately and then recover or just the application to crash. Artifacts are 99% caused by overclocking or overheating.

Not sure what you mean by artifiacts but I am talking about in game the whole screen goes black except for some ingame icons and different stuff.
