if you are running windows 7, please post pictures of your my computer screen here .

if i open word 2010 and click file > save as, the dialogue opens to libraries > documents.
is this correct? is this where you save files to the hard drive? please help.

yes, the default path office saves files to is your documents library but you can easily change the destination to whatever, just browse to the folder where you want it to be saved
