Post Your Network Setup

Any interesting or crazy network setups out there?

I imagine most people have a simple single router setup (which is great!), but there are also people who go full tilt and implement dozens of devices into a single harmonious deployment.

Since I am a super network nerd I find it interesting to see what kind of setups people have rigged up.

How about yours? :D

No, u!

But sure, mine is kind of rigged up at the moment but we'll be moving soon ;)
Also have some inbound SAN equipment so it'll probably change a good bit.

At home I currently just have a simple ASSUS RT-N56U connected to the modem, with a second N56U connected in the basement to the HTPC hooked up to the 5G network over wireless bridge.

How boring :P

Hey I don't know what you're expecting from me. I'm not even home hardly ever so it doesn't matter. My family doesn't bitch about its performance. That and it's a waste for me to drop the kind of money I want to on the network.

My house has a single Router/Modem combo box from AT&T that we "rent". Pulls a blazing 7mbps on a good day. Which horribly enough is higher than what we actually pay for, which is 6mpbs.

So you guys and your fancy diagrams can shove it. :)

Beers are you in KC just for the Fiber? :D

Nothing personal, I was just joking. I'm like Beers though, since networking is my profession I enjoy testing things out at home to get more experience with different products and ways of doing things.

Well, I'm boring as well. I just have an old, but soild performing WRT54GL flashed with DD-WRT connected to a Dell netbook Mini 910 that hosts a FTP and Teamspeak server. The path to the FTP is stored on a 15 GB SD card. LOL It works though! I only have a few GBs on the netbook so I had to go that route. I have 3 computers on the network including my SiriusXM player. In DD-WRT I have a SSH server. I have changed the default ports of Teamspeak and the SSH port. Kinda security through obscurity thing. So far it works since I haven't seen in SNMP any bots find the ports.

I don't have a high attire Internet speed, but if I did I would add a COD server. Thinking about buying a host for that.

I just discoverd wampserver and XAMPP server and now I can play with my phpBB forum with the Mysql database without messing up the live version. It freaking cool! It installs PHP, Mysql and Apache to name a few. So if anyone wants to host a CMS or PHP forum they could use that. I made a blog post about it. Check my signature.

I should have a NAS...

Boy, I don't even feel important just reading this thread, I've never been one for networking stuff, although I've wanted to learn, but for the most part, it works like magic to me. I don't know much beyond the basic set-up/installation stuff.

I've got 15 Megabits per second DL speed (1.9 MB/s) unfortunately coupled with a 1 Megabit per second UL speed. We had Time Warner hook into our own Zoom brand modem/router and then I connected my Linksys up to the Zoom box and use it for access instead. Pretty boring really. I'd like to get one of those things that uses the homes electrical system to transmit the Ethernet signal or whatever, but I have no clue how to operate something like that and haven't taken the time to look into it.

Why an ASA and a PIX? Just what you had on hand?

Pretty much. I just use them for lab environments so they don't sit on the edge or anything. The PIX was like $5 so figured it would be good for some config fun since I've only really ever used ASAs. I've already replaced the PIX uplink with the shiny new MDS switch though :P

Anyconnect being forwarded through is pretty convenient as a remote access VPN though.

Hi guys, new here, so I thought I would post my "boring setup" as well. I don't have a flowchart or visio drawing cause well I fly by the seat of my pants most days. The other days I just like my No.2 w/ an eraser and notepad just fine.

- Dlink DIR2310 router behind a TWC Ubee modem/router/wireless unit.
- Windows Home Server 2011 with 2TB storage and a HS laptop hdd for backup. The server runs as a file server, print and backup server while running lights out and Plex (media server add-in)
- Win7 Ult 64 - Gaming rig for all those FPS Games like BF, COD etc.
- Win7 Home netbook for my wife and all her pintrest crap.
- Win7 Home desktop for all the office crap like bills, photo editing etc the netbook won't do (it will just small ass screen so it is used for my wife's light work)
- Win7 Pro - my work laptop and all it's glory
- 2 Vizio smart TV's

Current projects
- Getting wireless to my shop over 500ft away from the house, I have several option but a new router maybe it.
- Streaming my huge collection of MP3's to my home stereo. Currently installing and configuring Plex for this.

Furture plans

- To design a family website and host it to replace "Facebook"
- Gearing up for when my oldest wants a computer or laptop (should be soon) so I can control everything on it!
- Add a DVR Server for security cameras down the road when we buy a new house this year.

Nice setup. For your wireless project, I'd look at something like this:
