Power Issue

I have a Dell laptop and it won't stay running :(. when I turn it on, it only stays on for a second or two (not even long enough to show the dell opening screen) and then shuts itself off. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
 
When I tried to start it yesterday, it was on battery because I couldn't find the cord. Are you saying the battery is probably dead? I'll see if I can find the cord and try again with it plugged in.

sounds like the battery is low.Find the cord and see how it does
