Power or not

I have bought a HP laptop, and as with a lot of laptops; it has a more light screen when it has powersupply from the recharger, then when it doesn't... That is not the only thing, it also runs ALOT slower when not pluged in! And frankly I would like it to do the same when not pluged in... What can I do to change the settings, so it will run as fast when not pluged in???

Thank you for any help

um, with my dell, all i do is right click the battery power icon and i can change it to max battery or max preformance or w/e

I can't seem to find anything in the BIOS... And with the clicking on the battery, all the profiles does the same, how do I change that?

most laptops have some kind of power management software to control the screen brightness, processor speed, etc. if you cant find anything, then try under power options in the control panel.
