Power Supply and/or hdd problems

I have a compaq sr2050nx. A few months back it stopped booting. I did some research and found my psu was bad. (I did the test where you jump the green and black wire and plug it in and the fan didn't turn on) I replaced the psu and it booted right up. Well a few days ago the computer stopped booting again. Once again, did the psu test and concluded the psu had already gone bad. (that's what I get for getting it on ebay)

Well here's the second part of the problem. I had some stuff on my hard drive I needed access so after more research, I found I needed a usb hard drive case and borrowed one from a friend. Well I plugged it in and all the hard drive does is click and squeak like once a second. Please tell me I don't have both a bad hard drive and psu. Thank in advance for the replies.

Yep, sounds like you have a bad hard drive. Doesn't sound like you will be getting your data off of it either. You can try putting the drive in the freezer for like 30 minutes and immediately hook it up and see if you can pull your data off of it. Sometimes the freezer trick works and sometimes it don't.

Thanks for the replies. A couple questions though.
If the freezer trick doesn't work, does it do further damage to the drive?

Also, did some more research and I think I may have a bad head. Is there any way to verify this?

Verifying the head is the issue I can not comment on. However, repairing the hard drive will be more trouble than it is worth. To do it right, you need a clean room with antistatic mats, and the clean suit with hairnets. Anything less and you risk damage to the platter.
