Your psu should tell you right on the outside of the casing for the unit when you open the big case up...

yes i am and i am wondering if a video card needs a 300 power supply does that mean it uses 300 watts

no, because the other components in your computer need to use that power,however im not sure how much it actually uses in terms of watts.
