Power Supply Tips

It seems everywhere I go on this forum people are talking about the power supply. I've only had one build and used an old power supply. It's been good for over 18 months. But, what should I be looking for? Am I mainly looking for how many W it has now? I believe the one I have is a 400W. But, I'm gonna start a new build soon so, yeah.

I recommend a quality 550W, I am not familar with the brand of your 400W...

That's my point. I have no clue what kind of power supply I got. And, well It's been working great for a while but, whats the difference with some of em. On newegg they advertise some of them working with i7? does that mean the ones that don't say that... won't work with it?
