Power Supply Upgrade - HP a1630n

Hi there, I have a quick question about upgrading the power supply in my HP a1630n desktop PC. Inside it is a Hipro 300 watt power supply that came with the system. I spoke with HP customer support online and they suggested that since my motherboard was a micro ATX 9.6inch by 9.6 inch that I order a new power supply through them to avoid incompatibility issues.

I don't really want to get it through them, and have not had much experience with replacing power supplies on pc's.

Here is a link to the HP website providing information about the PC and motherboard etc: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ct=3245027&query=a1630n&jumpid=reg_R1002_CAEN

I was hoping to get a 400 watt or more power supply but since I don't know what can be used in my machine I am stuck:mad:

Anyways, the motherboard is an ASUS A8M2N-LA (NodusM3) and the reason I am doing this is to upgrade to a PCI express graphics card sometime in the near future. I'd be looking at a 7600 gt or a 7900gs but my main concern is the power supply and budget isn't really a concern right now, I'd just like to take a look at some options.

I don't see why a typical power supply wouldn't work. I mean as long as the plug on the motherboard is a basic ATX plug, and the area for the PSU can compensate it's size, basically any should work. I mean I've worked in some older HPs that used smaller ATX power supplies. After messing around a bit, I managed to cram a "standard" sized ATX power supply in it and get the machine running again.

As for the power requirements, I suspect you'd be fine with a 7600GT. They actually require very little power when compared to most other cards, and also don't require PCI-Express plugs.
