I am on a HP Pavillion m8530f, I am looking at replacing my power supply fan and such with this; HIPRO HP-D3537F3R 350W Power Supply HP Replacement P/N: 5188-2859.

I would like to know if I upgrade would it just be the watts that change..? EX:350W to say 500W?? Would this be acceptable or not? IF not then what would be an acceptable upgrade for this type of power supply electronic? Any help is apreciated!!

Thanks,
Amy

if i was going to be upgrading the psu, i would pick a more credible unit, wattage means nothing, espically if the unit itself weighs nothing. a quality supply will have some heft to it. i suggest checking out antec and corsair, both are solid supplies

This is a chance for you to get a real brand instead of a stock and likely poorly made one. The things I looked for when I was shopping was active pfc, 80+ silver or gold certified, wattage needs, quality capacitors, single 12v rail, cost, modular cables, and whether or not it's compatible with my system(mobo slots need to be the same pin count as what the psu offers). Generally the brands to consider with power supplies are corsair, coolermaster, silverstone, seasonic, and antec.

For your m8530f pretty much any decent PSU will have enough power hook ups for your various devices. Like the previous posters have stated, it is important to get a high quality brand of PSU when upgrading (HP is known for using poorly made PSU's in their prebuilt PC's. The HP computer I had went through 2 power supplies under warranty before I said screw it and put in a decent one myself).

For that system anything 300w or higher would be sufficient. Go with a brand like Corsair, Antec, OCZ, Seasonic, Thermaltake, Silverstone, or Coolermaster (There are other brands that make high quality PSU's but these are the ones that come to mind).
