Power Supply with Fan at the Back

Hey Guys,

First of all this is my first post. I have a Lite On PS 5301 08HF which was the Power Supply which shipped with my computer. It is only 300 w and I will be upgrading my graphics card to a Club 3D Radeon HD7850 Royal Queen which requires a 500 watt power supply. Then there are 2 problems with this. The first thing is that I dont know if I need an 600w power supply just so it can power my other components or would 500 watts include all my other computer components. The next thing is that the power supply which I have now is pointing out of the back of the case, in other words the fan is pointing outwards and there is a hole there for the air to go through and then to the left of that is where the cable enters. It looks like this:

I was thinking abou gettings this PSU:

Would this work at the top of the case or would it be blocked?

Thanks:)

When they say 'requires 500w', they mean as a minimum for the whole system.
But.
When choosing a ps, go for quality and the amount of amps needed for the system
while allowing extra amps (called headroom). Not all ps companies are honest about thier ps's output. There should be better ps's for close to the same money as the CM you linked.
For ps similar to the CM, looks to me you would have to measure the current one and possibly the clearance for other components inside the case. Then if all that looked good the back of the case would need to be cut. A lot of work.

A new/different case would be easier and better.

What computer is it?

Its a Compaq, then I have another problem with the name of the computer. Since I re installed windows I cant check the name for the computer, all I have is the Model Number which doesnt even lead me to anywhere here is the Model Number:
CQ5319CH and I dont know how to get the name out of the model number as when I search google for it all I get is me posting on other websites :P LOL
Would a case be expensive? Thanks

Depends what case you get. But you can pick up a really good one for a very cheap price. The psu i suggest a cool maater bronze edition 750w runs all conponents of my computer woth plenty of head room. Plus i think the cool master will easily fit your current case with no problems :-)

That cooler master will not fit my case though because then the fan would be facing up into the roof of the case which would allow no airflow, or am I completely wrong? :P Thats why I think I need one with a fan on the side of the Unit

You can mount PSUs the other way round you know, so the fan faces the bottom. In fact, the correct way to mount it regardless of whether the PSU sits at the top or the bottom of the case is to mount it so the fan is facing down.

Some cases aren't very good at fan down. As long as the case is running cool fan up is ok imo.

Ok, so I could get a PSU with fan facing into my case and that would be ok?
Thanks

This was talking about a bottom mount ps when the case has no air vent for it or at least something to keep it from resting on the bottom of the case. When the case doesn't, fan up is ok as long as the case has good cooling so the ps isn't drawing hot air from within the case. Your case is the opposite since it is top mounted.

If you get a decent case and a high quality ps, both will last you a long time and through future upgrades.

Ok one last question/conformation. If I get a power supply which has the fan facing down into the case (above the graphics card). Would the hot air from the supply go back to the case through the fan or is the fan only sucking the air? Where does the hot air go?Yes I am a noob but thanks or the help :)

The hot air should be exhausted by the fans in the back of your PC.

It's not a massive issue really.

Can the three pins which connect to the power supply face down so it goes 1 pin and then 2 pin instead of 2 pin and then 1 pin?
