Power Supply

I wasn't real sure where to post this problem with my comp. You don't really need the specs for it...I think i know what the problem is, i just want your guys input. One day a few weeks ago i was taking apart an older comp that i had used before and found a few things i could get a couple bucks off of. But there was a harddrive (i'll just call it harddrive A) in it and it seemed fine to me. So i took my good computer apart and i put harddrive A in it and hooked it up. And i did set it to slave in order to run off my good harddrive (which was set to master) Then i checked all the cables and everything, and pushed the power switch and harddrive A went *POP* and it smelled bad and some smoke came out. But as soon as that happened the computer went down. And it doesn't seem to me that there is any current to the motherboard or anything. nothing happens when i press the power switch or anything. So i've come to the conclusion that by putting that harddrive in (which was probably old and faulty) i overloaded the power supply and it blew...any input?

you didnt accidentally put the power connector on the wrong direction did you? it can be done, especially with older hard drives where the connection is all worn out and stuff, that would definetely make the hard drive pop....

Did you unplug the old harddrive when you were attempting to boot it?

what? i put it in then pressed the power button to turn the computer on and the harddrive popped and the computer immediately went down...this was in a matter of seconds...obviously i tooked the old harddrive out there is a hole in it now where there was no hole before, i'm never tried putting it back in...

And littlehoov, of course i've gone over all the possible things that could have happened, and that could have been it but would that make the power supply go?....now thats my question....

You could have fried everything in the PC. Most importantly the Motherboard. To not scare ya, Try buying a new power supply.
