Power Supply

Is there much difference between a cheaper power supply of say 650w compared to something like a TT PSU of the same voltage? Will they both perform just as well??

Yes - a generic PSU won't have enough 12V amps to power your new components i.e. might only have 18Amps on the 12V rail when a new system needs 20+Amps of continuous power.

Generic PSU's overstate what they do and underperform.

Buy Seasonic as they are the best. TT, I hope you mean Thermaltake (not the TT generic brand) are both no good anyway, as Thermaltake rebadge old power supplies with nice stickers.

Seasonic as I said have strong 12V rails, enough amps and supply the True wattage stated or at least at 85% efficiency which a generic will never do.

Plus Seasonic are 80PLUS verified PSU's which is strenuous industry standards for PSU's. Just to prove I am not working for Seasonic, I also recommend Antec Earthwatts which are also reliable.

here is a link that explains everything in greater detail than myself. READ IT: http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Power_Supply_Unit

Haha nooo i meant Thermal Take for sure! I was just curious as i have seen all the crappy ones on Ebay for sale for peanuts! Will stick with the Antec, i have an Antec case and i love it so ill support them :)

There is basically not much difference with your computer. You should keep your computer at balance mode or power saver mode. You can also arrange a UPS for your computer which are not costly. It can run your computer for more than 2 hours if charged fully.

I think there is not much difference in that. It largely depends on power supply in your area. But you can have greater warranty period with costly battery.

Thermaltake makes fine power supplies, depending on the unit(some are hit or miss, but a majority are nice units). Seasonic is one of the most popular OEM's for power supplies, and make alot of the designs that other companies such as antec, pc power and cooling, corsair, and such use in their designs. And IIRC, the antec earthwatts series use a seasonic platform(the higher wattage ones may be CWT though).

Not to mention, great deals can be had on recertified OCZ and PC Power and Cooling units, you can pickup a 750W pcp&c silencer for around $70+shipping from svc.com, which uses seasonic internals. Other good manufacturers include BFG, XFX, Silverstone, Corsair, Xigmatek, Xclio, Tagan, etc

Also, i am moving this to the power supplies section of the forum.
