Power Switch

Hey guys, I have a question, it might sound stupid but it could become an issue.
Do you have to or is it recommended to turn the power supply switch off when ur not using the computer?

I dont think it would make any difference...
The only hing I could think of as a positive aspect would be the possibility the PSU not getting fried in a power surge... But if it is behind a surge protector it should not anyway.

so there shouldn't be nothing to worry about. I though that if ur computer was not use for a couple of days, the psu or mobo could be damaged by unused power.

well, it may drain your cmos battery, since the psu keeps the board on so the battery does not have to be used. but it would not effect it too much

how long might it take till the battery runs out?

and if it did it would just reset your stuff like overclocking settings right?

i was just wondering cause I wouldnt like my mobo or any of the rest of my computer parts to break just cause of the power supply.

1) Few years, one site i just saw said 10 years but i thought is was more around 5

2) Yeah, your clock (time) gets messed up etc.

ok so if i forget to use my computer for 5 - 10 years then my clock will reset :D

id better watch out.

I always wanted to know the true answer to that question once and for all. Thanks for asking DSM1999. Sometimes it's the seemingly stupid questions that need to be asked by someone so that many others will benefit as well. My computer is connected to a surge protector so I am going to leave it on most of the time from now on.
