Power usage - DVD or HD uses more?

I'm about to head off on a long trip to Australia from the USA with my family, and to try and keep the kids entertained I was thinking of taking a few DVD's along to keep them amused on the laptop in between whatever the airline offers up.

Question is, which of the two will give me greater playing time without recharging the battery - Using the DVD player or transferring the movies on to the laptop's hard drive? Obviously HD's and DVD drives differ in power usage from model to model and make to make, but I figured there'd be a clear difference between the two in this situation. My uneducated guess is that the DVD player would be the better option, as it has less mass to spin and read then the hard drive.

For interest, the laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite P205.

Thanks in advance.

It might actually be the same, still requires power to run both. The hard drive however will get hot and might use more power.
