k so my friend is having a problem , when he turns the psu on with the switch in the back all the fans turn on, but he never pressed the power button, and when he does try to turn it one nothing happens
That doesn't necessarily point at the supply itself there. Something on the board could failed or there is a need to inspect all power connections to make sure nothing is unplugged. There is evidently power but how much is another matter. Trying another supply by connecting it to the board there would make or break the current supply if found bad.
did he mess around maybe he unhooked the buttom from the mobo, or does it turn on then immediately shut down, cause that could mean not enough power, or something is shortaging it
could it be the psu thats messed up though? or the motherboard, he has enough powere it's 450 watts, when he turns the psu on the back, the fans go on, but nothing happens, then when he presses the button on the front of the comp to turn it one, nothing happens still
If your friend missed plugging in the four wire 12v feed that goes in near the cpu socket the system won't boot with most newer boards. That's one thing to take a look at there.
i figured it out, he has a 20 pin pwr supple and the mthbrd is 24 pin, and he was plugging the pwr supple in the middle. of course it has to be at the end not in the middle. don't know if that makes sense lol
On some boards only. What type board is that a Socket 754? All of the boards since then run with a full 24pin supply. The make and model board will tell what it needs by looking over the specifications on it.
2.0 refers to a 24 or 20+4 pin main connector on a supply. I was going to add that there are some 20 to 24pin adapters if one was going to be needed.http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=20to24 Glad to see it was something simple and not a hardware fault there.
