Powerline

My new house (new to me - not newly built) is too big to get wireless strong enough in all the rooms that need internet. So I was looking at the NETGEAR HDXB111 Powerline HD Plus Ethernet Adapter Kit.

Has anyone had success working these with video game consoles or Tivo? Is there a better one than this netgear? Also, would it be realistic to hook up a wireless router on one of these?

I had worked a few years with powerline on computers
And its great. just plug it in and start working.
Never tested with video game consoles or Tivo but if they have the TCP/IP
working on them, then they should work.
The powerline it self works(as you probably know) works inside
inside of your electricity wires, but at an higher frequency, the rest is exactly the same
as LAN cable.
In both ends of the powerlines (reciever and sender) they have there something like
an filter so it can be transformed back to normal LAN data so u can plugin your device and start working as an LAN.

IMO, you would be best off running an ethernet cable. it will be much faster, and a LOT cheaper. you can get 100ft cat6 for like $18 shipped. you can then connect this to a computer or another router.

only got 2 problems with this:
1-First has to have 1000Mbs Network card to have the CAT6 working in full power or else only works at 100Mbps like the powerline conected to an
ethternet card with only 10/100..
2-i need to have a cable across the floor/celeing to the other room,
and it doesnt look like anyone likes that..

thanks for the info, canivari.

I realize a ethernet cable would be better, but my wife won't let me leave the wires laying all over the floors. I'm also not ready to drill holes in the walls to run them through the attic.

1. well, since you dont have 1000mbit internet any ways, and disreguarding the fact that cat6 IS 1000 mbit ready.

2. i just drilled the hole for our cable a little bit bigger, cant even tell its there.
